Mattel introduced a Diwali Barbie doll ahead of the Diwali festival. This doll has been designed in partnership with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre and features attire that reflects Indian culture.
The Diwali Barbie’s attire comprises a lehenga skirt, choli top and koti vest. The lehenga skirt is designed with motifs of jasmine, lotus and dahlia flowers.
The doll also features golden earrings and bangles and a bindi, showcasing India’s heritage.
The doll was sold on Mattel’s website and by retailers such as Amazon. Through the launch of the doll, Mattel hopes to promote diversity around the world.
With this launch, Barbie dolls now come in 35 skin tones, 97 hairstyles and nine body types.
