Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi took charge as the 46th Vice Chief of Army Staff on February 19. He replaced Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar in the post. Dwivedi’s career in the military spans almost four decades and he has vast experience in numerous areas including force structuring and operational logistics. Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School Rewa in Madhya Pradesh and has also been trained at various other institutions including the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and the United States Army War College, USA. From 2022 to 2024, Dwivedi served as the Northern Army commander, guiding the implementation and planning of operations in an environment that is considered extremely demanding.
