Homei Miyashita, a Japanese professor, has developed a new device called Taste the TV (TTTV). It uses a carousel of 10 flavour canisters that spray in a particular combination to create the taste of a specific food item, which is then sprayed onto a hygienic film over a flat TV screen for the viewer to try. A student demonstrated the device by telling the screen that she wanted to taste sweet chocolate—an automated voice repeated the order and flavour jets spritzed a sample onto the plastic sheet. Miyashita hopes this device is used by food technologists and chefs to increase customer interaction. Miyashita is also working on various other gizmos—one of them is a fork that makes food taste richer.
