In a world where standing up and fighting one’s own battles is often necessary, the past month has brought forth numerous heroes who have inspired us. Among them are our Paralympic champions, who have made the nation proud with their remarkable achievements, overcoming adversity to claim victory on the global stage.

Equally admirable is Vinesh Phogat, a wrestling icon who faced disqualification at the Paris Olympics 2024. Despite this setback, Phogat displayed immense grace and resilience, standing firm in her beliefs. Rather than allowing disappointment to define her, she has turned it into motivation to uplift others, particularly women. Her decision to enter politics is a testament to her commitment to making a difference. If she gains a leadership role, we can only hope her passion and perseverance will help women in India.

Doyel Trivedi, a class 10 student at Golden Era Academy sent us a poem to express her thoughts on the disqualification of Phogat.

Tell me,
Did the weight she gain,
Compare to ones she had to carry?
Trainings, pressure and expectations,
Yet she never grumbled and was happy.
Defying her humble beginnings,
She worked hard night and day.
Through determination and hard work,
She paved a golden way.
She had many pressures to bear,
Yet she dared to be ambitious.
But look what they did,
Tell me, is that judicious?
Our country was counting on her,
Oh, hope was in the air.
But after her disqualification,
We fell into despair.
Our hopes and her dreams got shattered,
When she got rejected.
All her hard work went in vain,
Of course she felt dejected!
They should have ‘weighed’ in both the aspects,
The weights she carried and the weight she gained.
But they only weighed the one they saw,
Didn’t even see how hard she had trained!
I feel so sorry and so sad,
And even angry and oh so mad!
Just think about her…
…Tell me, isn’t it bad?
Though she will always be a winner to us,
Shouldn’t something be done?
This matter isn’t over.
Tell me, shouldn’t something be done?
