Maker Mela was organised by Somaiya Vidyavihar’s Research Innovation Incubation Design Labs (riidl) and powered by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Innovators across different spheres including science, education, crafts and engineering presented their unconventional projects to a diverse audience. This edition included a range of innovations, from multipurpose chairs to dancing robots, and encouraged creativity, innovation, experimentation and outside-the-box thinking.
The remarkable progress the world has made since the Stone Age wouldn’t have been possible without creators and scientists thinking outside the box. From cinema, where filmmakers come up with unique narratives and plot twists to engage the audience, to innovations in space technology that have made space journeys a reality, creativity has played an important role in every aspect of life. Creativity helps people find new ways to solve problems. It helps people develop products and services that never existed. Additionally, generating new ideas helps people to identify gaps in systems and take advantage of opportunities that have gone unnoticed.
As a child, you too can engage in activities such as art, music, drama and writing to boost your creativity. When you come across a challenge, do you consider different approaches or ask yourself, “How can I do this differently?”
