Letter from the Editor: June 16, 2021

As we continue to fight COVID-19, stories of real-life heroes are emerging from various parts of the country.

In Noida, Nagia, a man working for an IT company, has provided free transport to close to 25 COVID-positive patients to different hospitals. He has converted his personal vehicle into an emergency response vehicle and even fitted his car with the necessary equipment such as oxygen cylinders, medicines, pulse oximeter, food, water and oxygen cans.

Khao San, a restaurant in Khar, Mumbai, has been packing lunch boxes for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees like sanitation staff, who may not be able to find food as roadside food establishments are not allowed to operate in keeping with COVID regulations. They are also sending lunch boxes to the slums of Dharavi.

In Hyderabad, Telangana, the MD of Kaligotla Technologies, K Venkata Murali is feeding close to 5,000 poor people through his NGO, No Food Waste.

In Goa, the kitchen of Cohiba restaurant is making doggy food–rice infused with meats and stock–to feed almost 150 stray dogs that used to live off the scraps from the currently-shuttered shacks on the beach.

There is always a way to help. All you need is the inclination and the heart to make a difference. Your contribution need not cost you the stars and the moon; sometimes something as simple as a small donation of `100 to the right NGO can feed a hungry mouth or buy a poor patient his/ her medicine.
