Plants and animals are endangered by human greed and negligence. Where industrialisation and infrastructure have destroyed the homes of various creatures, we as individuals also often unknowingly bring pain and suffering to animals.
One often comes across parents and children who bring a pet home, but soon realise that they don’t have the time or the means to look after it and are quick to put that little bundle of fur onto the streets. Have you ever considered how scared that little pup or kitten would be to be alone in a big bad world with no one to look after it? One needs to be sensitive and aware of the needs of these speechless animals, who want to be cared for and loved just like humans do.
In a recently released Puffin book, ‘Ed Finds A Home’ by Alia Bhatt, a little girl named Alia meets a dog named Ed who has been left on the beach to care for himself. Alia soon finds out that she has a unique superpower; she can talk to and understand the language of animals. Her superpower helps her understand Ed and bond with him. Through the book, the author encourages children to be sensitive to animals, who experience various emotions just like humans do.
Animals are often captured, exploited and made to live in stressful conditions for human benefit. Unfortunately, their feelings go unnoticed due to their inability to express themselves. It is important to be aware of the impact our actions have on these little and big creatures.
As humans, we must safeguard those who have no voice. Our actions, even small ones, have a great impact. Be compassionate towards all living beings and work towards creating a world where plants, animals and humans can live in harmony!
If the following animals spoke to you, what would they say?
