Letter from the Editor: December 16, 2020

The Indian government has started planning for the distribution of the vaccine once it is launched in India.

The vaccine will first be distributed to frontline health workers, followed by police and sanitation workers, people above 50 years of age and those with co-morbid conditions like diabetes and serious illnesses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all the states to put together the necessary mechanisms including cold storage and transportation for the vaccine’s delivery under the right temperature conditions. The government is also creating a database of those who will be given the vaccine and has started to procure syringes and needles.

While we are still waiting for the vaccine and we continue to fight the virus, it is heartening to know that in most cities, the number of cases has been reducing on a daily basis. At this point, till the scientists are ready with the vaccine, the spread and control of the virus is in our hands. As we head into 2021, let us keep our head on our shoulders and follow all the required safety norms when we bring in the New Year on December 31. Remember, social distancing and masks are for our benefit. Wear your masks at your Christmas and New Year celebrations and stay safe.
