Leo Varadkar, a politician of Indian origin, was re-elected as the prime minister of Ireland in December 2022. He replaced Micheál Martin to assume the role of prime minister in accordance with a rotational deal in which two parties, Martin’s Fianna Fail and Varadkar’s Fine Gael, are supposed to share the post of prime minister. Varadkar served as prime minister of Ireland for the first time from 2017 to 2020. He became Ireland’s youngest prime minister at 38 when he assumed the role in 2017 and is still one of the youngest politicians in the country. Varadkar’s father was an Indian immigrant who was a qualified doctor, while his mother was an Irish nurse. He was born in Dublin and studied medicine at Trinity College in Dublin.
