A series of landslides hit Wayanad district in Kerala on July 30, destroying property and killing more than 400 people. The landslides were a result of heavy rains in the region that caused hillsides to collapse.
Mundakkai and Chooralmala were among the locations that were most severely affected. Rescue operations were carried out in the region by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Navy, the Indian Army, the police and several other teams.
Compensation of ₹2 lakh was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the families of those who lost their lives due to the disaster. Additionally, the injured will receive ₹50,000.
The Kerala government is working to rehabilitate those affected by the catastrophic calamity to a safer location.
