Mr Perfect
The rain lashed violently against the glass pane of the luxury high-rise apartment, but inside, the room was wrapped in a suffocating, clinical silence. Standing in the centre of the pitch-black living room, Adrian didn’t move a muscle. He kept his eyes locked on the front door, his heart hammering against his ribs as he listened to the faint, rhythmic scratching sound coming from the smart lock outside.
In the adjacent bedroom, Adrian had been fast asleep, completely unaware of the shadow looming just outside his sanctuary.
A soft digital beep echoed through the quiet space as the deadbolt slid back with a sickeningly smooth click and the heavy door drifted open without a sound.
Suddenly, a soft, calm melody began to play, echoing faintly through the dark apartment—the killer’s signature style. The gentle music drifted into the bedroom, pulling Adrian from his sleep; he opened his eyes and completely froze, unable to make a single movement. Framed against the dim light stood a figure completely draped in black from head to toe, wearing a smooth, featureless silicon mask that erased every trace of human expression—a sight that sent a cold chill straight down Adrian’s spine.

Moving with terrifying elegance, the killer picked up the knife, his hands encased in tight latex gloves. He descended upon the bed, stabbing the upper body exactly 42 times with flawless, mathematical precision, leaving a perfect 1cm gap between every single wound. As the calm music continued to play, the blood swayed into the bedsheet, spreading as fast as water.
With the final, precise strike, the killer stepped back from the bed. He pulled a sleek digital tablet from his pocket, his latex-gloved fingers tapping the screen to confirm that every street camera within a two-block radius was completely looped and the building’s main security feed was wiped clean. He had calculated every variable down to the millimetre, mapping out the precise dimensions of the room and the exact trajectory of his entry weeks in advance. Nothing was left to chance.
Walking out of the bedroom and into the quiet kitchen, he picked up a glass of water, taking a slow, celebratory sip through his gloved hand. He set it down carefully, ensuring not a single ridge of his fingerprints touched the glass. He had delivered his own twisted version of justice and the police would spend months chasing a ghost.
He strode into the living room, stopping directly in front of the massive, pitch-black television screen. Looking at his own dark reflection in the glass, he reached up and peeled off the smooth silicon mask, revealing his true face to the empty room. He folded the mask carefully and slid it deep into his tactical backpack, a chillingly calm but devilish smirk spreading across his face.
Turning on his heel, he stepped towards the front door. Only then did he peel off the tight latex gloves, stuffing them deep into his jacket pocket, intending to drop them into the crowded public dumpster near the building’s entrance downstairs, where they would be buried under everyone else’s trash.
He left but missed the beep. Motion Detected in Reflection. 4K Video Recorded. Running Facial Recognition…Match Found: Asher Blake! Uploading to Police Cloud Backup…100% Complete.

Mr Perfect escaped, leaving no traces of DNA, but when Detective Marcus arrived, he spotted a pinhole on the TV. The mask peeling ceremony was no longer hidden. Now, the smirk passed to the detective. “Got you, Mr Perfect!” he said.
