Indian Council of Forestry Research Education Appoints First Female Director

Kanchan Devi, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, was appointed as director general of the Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE).

Kanchan Devi, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, was appointed as director general of the Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE). Her appointment makes her the first female to hold this post. ICFRE is a Dehradun-headquartered organisation that carries out research in the field of forestry and guides the Indian government and state governments on issues related to forest conservation. It also provides education on forestry and information on the latest technologies in the field. A 1991-batch IFS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Devi has more than 30 years of experience in forest management, forest research and wildlife policies. Before being appointed as director general, Devi worked as the deputy director at ICFRE and played a significant role in enhancing forestry courses and research.
