Pratiksha Tondwalkar, who began working as a cleaner at a Mumbai branch of the State Bank of India (SBI), has now become an assistant general manager (AGM) at the bank. Tondwalkar was born to an underprivileged family in Pune and couldn’t complete her education as she got married at the age of 16. She was widowed at the age of 20, which forced her to take up a job as a sweeper at the bank, where her husband used to work as a bookbinder. She also worked other menial jobs to support her son and herself. Tondwalkar was very ambitious and aspired to be more than just a cleaner. She cleared her class 10 and 12 exams and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1995. She was then promoted to the position of clerk at the bank. She became a trainee officer in 2004 and continued climbing the ladder for 18 years before rising to her current post of AGM.
