To improve attendance in government schools, Jharkhand’s Department of School Education and Literacy Development has started a programme known as ‘Prayas-Siti Bajao, School Bulao’. The initiative involves student leaders blowing whistles in the morning to encourage students across villages and towns in Jharkhand to go to school. The initiative also involves uploading pictures of students blowing whistles across social media platforms to raise awareness among parents, students and the rest of the public. Through this initiative, the state’s government aims to reduce absenteeism and bring students who have not attended school for more than a month back to school.
