Jitendra Singh, the union minister of state for the Ministry of Science and Technology, announced that a female humanoid robot named Vyommitra will be part of the second phase of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Gaganyaan mission. The female robot will be sent on missions to provide help and support to astronauts and will also be sent on un-crewed missions. The robot can communicate with astronauts, monitor module parameters, answer astronauts’ questions and carry out life support operations. The Gaganyaan mission’s trials began in October and the first crewed mission is expected to launch in 2025.
