An Israeli mathematician named Avi Wigderson has been honoured with the 2023 ACM AM Turing Award for advancing computation using randomness and for making other remarkable contributions to the computing field. In his career spanning several decades, Wigderson has made outstanding contributions to algorithms, the computational complexity theory, the combinatorics and graph theory and many other areas. The ACM AM Turing Award, named after popular British computer scientist and mathematician Alan Turing, recognises the efforts of individuals who make groundbreaking contributions to computing and is awarded by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) annually. Wigderson, who was also the recipient of the 2021 Abel Prize, will receive $1 million as part of the prestigious award.
