A ceasefire deal between Palestinian group Hamas and Israel, concluding a war that lasted 15 months, was confirmed by the USA, Qatar and Egypt. The ceasefire, enforced on January 19, involves three phases.
The initial phase of the deal includes the exchange of captives, prisoners and hostages between the warring parties and the exit of Israeli troops from Gaza. It also includes the provision of humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
The subsequent phases will involve more exchanges of hostages and a plan to rebuild and restore infrastructure and other facilities in Gaza.
The USA, Qatar and Egypt are serving as the ceasefire agreement’s guarantors and will oversee the execution of the deal.
