According to a new study conducted by scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA, it was found that insect protein provided numerous health benefits including slowing down weight gain, improving gut health and improving cholesterol levels. The study was conducted on mice. Scientists gave mice mealworms instead of usual protein sources and it was discovered that consuming the insect protein slowed their rate of weight gain. Additionally, it improved the good cholesterol to bad cholesterol ratio and enhanced the gut’s microbial activity. Scientists consider insect protein a sustainable alternative to traditional meat.
