INS Vindhyagiri, the sixth ship under the Project 17A frigate programme, was launched by President Droupadi Murmu at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited in Kolkata on August 17. The Project 17A frigate programme involves the construction of seven technologically advanced ships. Most of the systems and equipment used for Project 17A vessels were acquired from indigenous firms, exhibiting India’s commitment to being self-reliant. INS Vindhyagiri is a revamped version of its predecessor of the same name and has enhanced stealth features, platform management systems and defence capabilities.
