INS Gomati, the Indian Navy’s Godavari-class guided-missile frigate, was decommissioned on May 28 after 34 years of service. Built at Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock in 1978, the ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 16, 1988, by KC Pant, the then minister of defense. Designed by the Indian Navy, the ship combined Indian, Russian and western weapon systems and is the first Indian vessel to use digital electronics in her combat data system. INS Gomati was deployed in Operations Cactus, Rainbow and Parakram.
