- The recent approval by the Uttarakhand Forest Department to clear part of a forest in Uttarkashi has caused people to worry about its long-term impacts.
- Forest land spanning 17.5 hectares will be taken up for the construction of the Netala Bypass, which seeks to enhance connectivity in the region.
- The proposed bypass will be located in the Bhagirathi Eco-Sensitive Zone (BESZ), potentially endangering the ecosystem. To enable its construction, more than 2,000 trees will be felled, which experts believe could increase landslide threats.
- The flash floods that occurred in Dharali in August have made people more critical of the project.
