- Mount Ruang, a stratovolcano located in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province, recently experienced multiple eruptions. The first eruption took place on April 16 followed by a series of eruptions on April 17.
- The volcano emitted plumes of ash, lava and smoke hundreds of feet into the sky.
- Hundreds of people were evacuated from the region and the Sam Ratulangi International Airport located close to the affected area was shut temporarily.
- As the volcano’s debris could fall into the sea and give rise to a tsunami, authorities issued a tsunami alert and also warned people to stay 6kms away from the volcanic mountain.
