The Ministry of External Affairs of India has appointed Ruchira Kamboj, who is currently serving as India’s envoy to Bhutan, as the permanent representative of India to the United Nations (UN). Kamboj, who will succeed TS Tirumurti, began her career as a diplomat in Paris, France, where she served as the third secretary in the Indian Embassy to France from 1989 to 1991. From 2002 to 2005, Kamboj was a counsellor at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, where she handled several political issues. She topped the 1987 foreign service batch and was also the all-India women’s topper of the civil services batch of 1987.
