According to an announcement by the general manager of Northern Railway, Shobhan Choudhury, the first hydrogen train of the Indian Railways is expected to start operating from Jind district in Haryana by March 2024. The first prototype of the hydrogen-fuel-powered train will have eight carriages and will run between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. Hydrogen trains operate on hydrogen fuel cells, which generate electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen, making them environmentally friendly. These trains do not release dangerous pollutants like carbon dioxide, particulate matter or nitrogen oxide and can help to decrease carbon emissions.
