India’s fastest solar-electric boat called Barracuda was launched at Navgathi Yard in Alappuzha, Kerala, on December 13, 2023. Built by eco-marine technology firm Navalt and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, this vessel is 14mts in length and 4.4mts in width and can accommodate 12 passengers. The vessel is powered by a marine-grade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, twin 50 kW electric motors and 6 kW solar power and can attain a top speed of 12.5 knots. Barracuda has been designed to cruise through rough waters and can travel up to seven hours on a single charge.
