The Matsya-6000 submersible, a high-tech submersible developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology, underwent testing to check its operational capabilities. The submersible is a component of the Samudrayaan Project, which falls under the Deep Ocean Mission of the Government of India.
Matsya-6000 is capable of carrying three individuals and has several state-of-the-art features including navigation equipment, cameras and sensors. It is also capable of underwater communication.
Matsya-6000 underwent dry and wet tests to verify that all its systems work efficiently. The wet tests took place at the Larsen and Toubro shipbuilding facility in Tamil Nadu, where the floatation and other capabilities of the submersible were assessed.
