Aarti Holla-Maini is a satellite industry expert of Indian origin who has been appointed as director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, Austria. A UK-resident, she was appointed to the post by António Guterres, the secretary-general of the UN. Holla-Maini will bring more than 25 years of experience in the space sector to her new role at UNOOSA. The organisation’s aim is to facilitate global cooperation in space exploration and the application of space science and technology to attain social and economic progress. Her vast experience in the industry includes working with NorthStar Earth & Space as the executive vice-president for sustainability, policy and impact; serving as the secretary-general of the Global Satellite Operator’s Association; and being a member of the advisory board of the Satellite Industry Association of India.
