US President Joe Biden has appointed a diplomat of Indian origin named Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir as the US ambassador to Indonesia. Lakhdhir has served the State Department for approximately three decades and holds the post of career foreign service officer. Lakhdhir’s father had immigrated to the US for education. She was born in New York and studied at Harvard College and the National War College, USA. She became part of the Foreign Service in 1991 and served in various capacities thereafter. During her career, she served at the US Embassy of Saudi Arabia and was also appointed the US ambassador to Malaysia from 2017 to 2021.
