The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has urged its schools to consider using Indian languages as optional mediums of instruction in a bid to encourage multilingual education in India and cultivate a sense of cultural pride among students. Along with English and Hindi, CBSE schools can offer education in 22 Indian languages. This decision aligns with the new National Education Policy and aims to enhance students’ learning by providing education in familiar languages. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has also been instructed to develop textbooks in the introduced languages, which will be made available from the academic year 2024-25.
