Indian boxers put up an impressive performance at the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan, by winning a total of 43 medals including 12 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals.
India concluded the tournament with the second-highest number of medals after host country Kazakhstan, whose medal count reached 48.
Vishvanath Suresh defeated Kazakhstan’s Karap Yernar 5-0 in the 48kg category to win India’s first gold medal in the U-22 category at the tournament. India’s U-22 team concluded the tournament with 21 medals in all.
Yashwardhan Singh, Brijesh Tamta, Akash Gorkha, Poonam Poonia and Aryan Hooda also clinched gold medals at the championships.
