Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani has been appointed as the new vice chief of army staff (VCOAS), succeeding Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi in the post. Subramani served as the general officer commanding-in-chief of the Central Command prior to his current role. He has over 35 years of experience in the military and has worked in a variety of terrains. He has been trained at many prestigious institutions including the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the National Defence Academy, Pune, and the National Defence College, New Delhi. Subramani played a significant role in various military operations including ‘Operation Rhino’ and held many important positions including that of brigade major of a mountain brigade.
