Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao, a 102-year-old Indian-American mathematician and statistician, will be awarded the 2023 International Prize in Statistics for his remarkable contributions to the field. The prize is considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize in the field of statistics and will be awarded to Rao at the biennial International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress in Ottawa, Canada, in July. Rao is being honoured with the award for his 75-year-old work that revolutionised statistics and continues to have a major impact on science. Rao, who was born in Karnataka, has also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan.
