India has selected two Indian Air Force pilots named Shubhanshu Shukla and Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair as the primary mission pilot and the backup mission pilot, respectively, for a mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla is an Indian Air Force test pilot.
The mission called Axiom-4 is a private mission to the ISS and is a collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Axiom Space and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), USA.
It will include four astronauts who will conduct experiments and research activities aboard the ISS. The crew began training for the project in Houston, USA, in August.
The mission is expected to provide India with valuable information and experience that will benefit future missions to space.
