The highest fighter airfield in the world will be constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Ladakh’s Nyoma. Nyoma is a small village located at an altitude of around 13,700ft and its distance from the Line of Actual Control (LAC)–the demarcation that separates India from China–is less than 50kms. The airfield will cost around ₹200 crore and will cover 1,235 acres with a 2.7km runway. It will be prepared for aircraft operations in approximately two years and is expected to strengthen India’s defence sector tremendously.
