Researchers have used ultraviolet photography to discover a hidden chapter of the Bible written over 1,500 years ago. The newly discovered text contains parts of Matthew chapters 11 and 12 of the Bible in Syriac and was found under three layers of text in a manuscript. According to the researchers, it was common practice in the Middle Ages to erase texts in order to overwrite them with new text, as parchment was hard to find. This piece is one of the earliest translations of the Gospel and gives researchers an insight into early Bible translations and the communities that translated them.
