The central government stated that it would examine the issue of Havana Syndrome in India in response to a petition filed by a resident of Bengaluru who requested an inquiry into the strange illness.
The first case of Havana Syndrome was reported in India in 2021 by an American CIA officer who visited New Delhi in September that year. He had been stationed in Havana, Cuba.
According to US media reports, 130 such experiences have been reported across the world including reports from Moscow, Poland, Taiwan, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Austria among others.
The syndrome’s symptoms include dizziness, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, insomnia and memory loss.
The causes of the syndrome are unknown and some officials believe it could be caused by a sonic attack linked to high-frequency microwave emissions.
