The Godrej family has decided to amicably split the Godrej Group, a prominent 127-year-old conglomerate, into two entities.
Under this agreement, Nadir Godrej and his brother Adi Godrej will have full ownership of the Godrej Industries Group (GIG), which includes the conglomerate’s five listed companies. Their cousins Smita Crishna and Jamshyd Godrej will have ownership of the Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG), which includes Godrej & Boyce and its affiliate companies.
Based on the statement released by the family, the reason for the division is an “ownership realignment” of the family members’ shareholdings in the conglomerate.
Both GIG and GEG will continue to use the ‘Godrej’ brand name for their business operations.
