Researchers from the University of Utah and Virginia Tech, USA, have found that changes in monsoon patterns are considerably affecting glaciers in the High Mountain Asia region, with 22 gigatons (22 trillion or 2,20,00,00,00,00,000 kilograms) of ice melting annually. According to researchers, this decline is triggered by alterations in the South Asian Monsoon patterns in addition to increased temperatures. Usually, in some regions, rainfall is converted to snow due to the cold, contributing to the growth of glaciers. However, rising temperatures have led to these regions receiving rain instead of snow, together with several other changes that impact glaciers.
