Chikri woodcraft and Mushqbudji rice of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri and Anantnag districts have been honoured with Geographical Indication (GI) tags. The process for GI tagging began in 2020 and was initiated by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom. Found in the hill ranges of Jammu, Chikri wood is a fine-grained wood that is used to make intricately carved craft items. Mushqbudji rice is a short and aromatic rice variety grown in Kashmir. GI tagging these unique products will help in promoting them at the international level.
