This simple and wholesome tofu recipe is perfect for a weeknight dinner.
INGREDIENTS
100 grams firm tofu
3 spring onions, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Oil for cooking
2 teaspoons sesame seeds, toasted
FOR THE TOFU MARINADE
1 tablespoon soya sauce (or tamari sauce)
1 to 2 tablespoons corn starch
1 teaspoon maple syrup
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon chilli garlic sauce
Salt to taste
FOR THE STIR FRY SAUCE
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 teaspoon minced ginger garlic
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon soya sauce
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vinegar
METHOD
Cut the tofu into cubes, pat them dry with a tissue and set them aside.
In a bowl, add all the ingredients for the marination, mix well and add the tofu. Keep it aside for 5 minutes.
Mix all the stir fry sauce ingredients in a bowl.
In a pan, add some oil and sauté the tofu well on all sides until the pieces become crisp. Take them out.
Add some more oil to the pan and toss in the spring onions. Add the stir fry sauce and let it cook for a bit.
Add the sautéed tofu and let everything cook together for 3 to 4 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
Sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top and serve with steamed rice or noodles.
