On January 9, Gabriel Attal assumed the role of France’s new prime minister following his appointment by Emmanuel Macron, the president of France. This appointment makes 34-year-old Attal France’s youngest prime minister. Attal was initially associated with France’s Socialist Party, after which he joined Macron’s Renaissance Party in 2016. He was appointed France’s minister of national education and youth in 2023. During his political career, he has worked in various capacities including as government spokesperson and minister of public action and accounts. Attal, who succeeds Elisabeth Borne, plans to prioritise education during his tenure.
