What is an E-Vehicles (EVs)?
EVs are vehicles powered by electricity using an electric motor unlike an internal combustion engine (ICE). They are becoming increasingly popular due to advancements in technology, environment concerns and government incentives.

Key features of EVs:

1. Electric motor- Powered by rechargeable batteries, which typically consists of lithium ion, nickel, cobalt and manganese.
2. While Batteries for small vehicles can be charged at home and at public charging stations for larger vehicles with higher battery capacities. Charging depends on the charger type among others.
3) Modern EVs typically offer range between 242 km and 600 km on a single charge and with some premium models exceeding 800km.
4) Maintenance- EVs have fewer moving parts than traditional cars, resulting in lower maintenance costs.

Advantages:
1) Lower air pollution and depletion of greenhouse.
2) Lower running costs compared to petrol and diesel vehicles.
3) Smooth driving- Quieter operation and instant torque for better acceleration.

Challenges:
1) Charging infrastructure- Development of easily accessible charging facilities are a time critical actionable for deeper EV adaptability in our country.
2) Battery life and Recyling- Concerns about quick battery degradation and high cost of replacement are the problem statements to be duly addressed.
3) Initial cost- Higher cost compared to standard petrol and diesel vehicles which is expected to lower down basis economies of scale as the volume of EVs spike up in the country.

Popular models of EV Cars in India.
1) Mahindra BE 6E
2) Tata Nexon
3) Tata Curvv
4) Hyundai Ioniq
5) Kia EV6
