V Ramasubramanian, a former judge of the Supreme Court of India, has succeeded Justice Arun Kumar Mishra as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The NHRC is an entity that focusses on safeguarding human rights and also spreads awareness about the same. Ramasubramanian, who is an alumnus of the Madras Law College, Chennai, has worked in various capacities during his legal career. He served in the Madras High Court for more than 20 years, as a judge in the Telangana High Court and as Himachal Pradesh High Court’s chief justice. Ramasubramanian’s tenure as a judge of India’s Supreme Court spanned from 2019 to 2023.
