India’s first sunken museum, which exhibits more than 500 Mughal artefacts, was inaugurated on July 29. The museum is situated at the Humayun’s Tomb complex in New Delhi and is now open to the public. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture partnered with the Archaeological Survey of India to build the museum, the structure of which is inspired by traditional water tanks known as ‘baolis’. The artefacts on display include coins, manuscripts and textiles and will shed light on the historic Nizamuddin area and the life of Mughal Emperor Humayun.
