Anusha Shah scripted history by becoming the first Indian-origin president of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the UK. The ICE is a professional organisation, which represents 95,000 people working in the field of civil engineering and infrastructure. Shah, a specialist in water and environmental engineering, is the organisation’s 159th president. Shah aims to promote an environmentally friendly approach to engineering. She believes that the harm caused to biodiversity by construction and infrastructure-related activities can be mitigated by employing a nature-positive approach in engineering. Shah has over two decades of experience in designing and heading engineering projects. She is associated with Arcadis, an engineering and management consulting company, as the senior director for resilient cities and is a visiting professor at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
