Astronomers have found an exoplanet with wind speeds reaching more than 32,187kms/hr, making it the planet with the fastest wind speed ever found. The planet, called WASP-127b, surpasses Jupiter in size and is situated at a distance of approximately 500 light years from Earth. Though the planet is larger than Jupiter, its mass is considerably less than that of the gas giant. Astronomers found that the wind speeds at the equator of the planet are extremely high and attribute these speeds to the planet’s proximity to its host star. They detected these fast winds with the help of the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile.

Scientists recorded winds with speeds of 1,799kms/hr on Neptune, making Neptune the planet with the fastest wind speed in the solar system.
