To solve the issue of unhygienic and foul-smelling toilets on Indian trains, the Indian Railways is considering the use of IoT- or internet of things-based technology comprising sensors and other devices. Trains will be equipped with smart systems, which will be capable of detecting and monitoring odours present in the air. On identification of any foul odour, the system will notify cleaners and other authorities who can take timely action. A Mumbai-based firm named Viliso Technologies, which offers IoT-based monitoring devices, is expected to head this project.
