Palaeontologists found the fossils of enormous sea scorpions measuring around 8ft in length in Australia. These huge creatures are believed to have existed about 400 million years ago and were capable of migrating great distances.
The sea scorpions are part of an extinct aquatic arthropod group and are known as eurypterids. Studies of the fossils revealed that some of the creatures were part of the Pterygotus genus and were approximately 5ft 7 inches in length. Others were part of the Jaekelopterus genus, which could surpass 8ft in length. Palaeontologists believe that changes in environmental conditions could have driven these creatures to extinction
