Lambani artisans have set a new Guinness World Record for making the largest number of embroidery patches. 450 women belonging to the nomadic Lambani community from Hampi in Karnataka exhibited their remarkable skills by producing a collection of more than 1,755 unique embroidery patches at the G20 Culture Working Group (CWG) meeting held in Hampi in July. Lambani embroidery uses mirror work, colourful threads and other embellishments. This initiative highlighted India’s cultural heritage and was undertaken in congruence with CWG’s third priority area, which is ‘Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries and Creative Economy’.
