India’s largest oil firm, Indian Oil Corporation plans to produce environmentally friendly uniforms for its employees working at liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distributor agencies and petrol pumps using recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. Named ‘Unbottled’, this project is one of the three initiatives in the green energy sector that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inaugural function of India Energy Week 2023 in Bengaluru in February.
Under this initiative, 10 crore discarded PET bottles will be recycled, processed and converted into yarn annually to weave fabric to manufacture uniforms. A special agency will be employed to collect discarded cold drink and mineral water bottles for this project.
